US Patent and Trademark Office is one of the greatest repositories of practical knowledge in history. But along with a great deal of very serious and edifying material, much legally advised and/or required verbiage, and inventor-inspired general-purpose pleonasms, there are some items in their records that are highly amusing. In this series, occasional examples of such patents and patent applications are going to be extracted and put up for their amusement value.
A number of famous expressions have become common relating to improvements to mousetraps. And, of course, everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas. Which brings us to today's invention. This mousetrap, patented by a man from Texas, certainly lives up to the "bigger" reputation. It is certainly fairly big. And likely to be loud when activated. But whether this is a real improvement is tough to say. The cleanup after the trap is triggered is likely to be rather extensive. And the trap itself definitely looks expensive.
